Colchuck Zone and invited four dear friends to join me at a Colchuck Lake base camp to make day trip ascents of Aasgard Pass and access the magical Enchantments Lakes basin. Fall colors are evident and the high Alpine Larches are turning gold as we anticipate the days ahead. The elevation at the lake is 5,570 feet and Aasgard Pass, visible to the left of Dragontail Peak (center), tops out at 7,800 feet. It’s a very steep hike as the gain occurs in less than a mile, but the views are stunning. The dramatic north faces of Dragontail Peak, and Colchuck Peaks dominate the view at the south end of the lake at 8,840 feet and 8,705 feet respectively. Incidentally, I recently created the Analogue Mountaineering Alpine Club and inducted my friends as founding members here at this sacred camp at the lovely Colchuck Lake on September 25, 2019.
